Texmod by itself will not get you banned, so long as you're using the version hosted on the official wiki.

So to be absolutely clear about this putting all your comments together I get.
You will not maybe definitely get banned Well I am glad you cleared that up. I thought this had been cleared up ages ago certainly many think so. Something along the lines of "you use it at your own risk" which many of us took to be a get out, ie you use it we have no problems with that but if it crashes your computer its not our problem. Taking it to mean use it and we will ban you if we feel like it is totally different and English is a clear enough language for companies to be able to say what they mean in a way that is easily understood. And as for your friend who almost got banned how do you almost get a ban. Did they mail him and say we almost banned you but decided to let you off this time.? |

I'm not sure why this keeps coming up. They said TexMod is OK in 2007.

What I can gather on text mod is the original program is fine but the mods you use with it could get you banned ie, cartog map or anything that is chainging there textures i'm not 100% sure on this as anet and its other subsideries will not reply to my emails.
This is why I just went old school and got all the cartog done on me own took me 6months to do it like, but it was fun . Well thats my 2cents of this confusing program |

This is all depending on the actual mod i gave those as refences and if download from offical wiki the actual programs should be fine but there is no guarantee that they are not going to have malicious coding in them.

They are just covering themselves.
So the answer is Texmod as advertised is ok and it doesnt activate any of their software that checks against botting or cheating in any other way they have thought of so far. . if however the author of texmod alters the program or someone writes a patch for texmod which alters the functionality then it could trigger a ban. Whether such alteration is known to us or not if it triggers their snoop program then we get a ban which we then have to appeal against. I can understand this now, and it doesn't really bother me any more the cartographer titles are out of my reach without texmod as my eyesight isn't that great any more. On the plus side I really do not need the titles to get to 30 points in the hom. So unless I am already on the death list for using it in the past I feel fairly safe, goodbye texmod till I get a more definite maybe from the powers that be. |

I downloaded TexMod from the link on the Wiki a couple months ago. My antivirus immediately hated it. Might have been a false positive, but another thing to watch out for.

Anyway, Texmod and others are, as in the text log Mister B posted, tolerated by ANet but not allowed in a strict sense. Having used texmod won't work in your defense if there is doubt about your account being clean. Last edited by Ben-A-BoO; Nov 21, 2010 at 09:51 AM // 09:51.. |

Texmod interferes with other programs, that's why it's useful, Antivirus software generally doesn't like programs which do this so they throw up alerts for Texmod. However, in this case, the desired effect is to mess with other programs.

Just because your friend says he was almost banned for using texmod doesn't mean that's what really happened. For starters, Anet doesn't tell you the specifics of what you did to get banned, so how would your friend really know?
Texmod on its own just modifies textures. That's not a problem as it doesn't enable you to automate playing the game. However: -the program could be altered (anyone can change the wiki link) -the program could be used in such a way to support a bot (maybe by dyeing all enemies a specific colour that a bot could lock on or similar) (this all coming from a guy who mapped all three continents with texmod and has never had any trouble with Anet) |

When you almost get run down by a car its evident you see and hear the car. But being almost banned seems to indicate anet contacted him with a warning about use of texmod. If they never give the reason for a ban why on earth would they give a reason for an almost ban. |

It's almost certain that the OP's friend is lying or mistaken. What exactly is almost banned? ArenaNet or NCSoft can't even detect TexMod. They (currently) have no way of knowing if anyone is using it. How would they contact a player and issue a warning or whatever, unless said player volunteered the information?

Wrong, if Anet wanted to they could VERY easily tell you which users have been using, or are currently using Texmod. Do you have any idea how easy it would be to scan the active processes, and then figure out which one is Texmod?

except that if they put it in I'm 90% certain we would have to agree to a new ToS giving them permission to scan the active processes.

Other games do have active process scanning function but GW currently does not (you can verify that using packet analyzers and process analyzers). Yes we would have to agree to a new tos if they implement that.

Other games do indeed although often times completely ineffective. But yeah the bottom line is. We would know if they implemented process scanning.
